Thursday day 4 - looking at the garden plan

With the weather so awful I have decided to start a bit of day dreaming on how the garden may look,

I think we have found the log cabin both Mark and I like. It is from Tuin a Dutch garden company.
We like the colour as it ties in with the back of the house and is hopefully not to dominant as it is painted in a light colour. The back will function as a 'fence'.

This is the layout, although I think there must be a mistake with the dimensions as they don't add up. Too late now, but will have to check this out.
TELEPHONE: 01508 558308  Mon to Fri 0900 - 1700
The area on the right will be the preserving area as well as storage for the juices, cordials, preserves, the apple shelving, apple press, sink and kitchen units

The area on the left will be to put in our bikes, garden furniture and cushions
underneath the window under the veranda we could have a little garden bench.

In front of the cabin will be a mediterranean bed:  this bed is 3 meters long. and will have plants like
Globe artichoke, pink lavender,  mini nectarine, mini peach, grape hyacinth, Tulip Angelique,

Log cabin is up and nearly all painted

On Friday and Saturday last week , Philip and Roger came to put up the log cabin.
As the forecast for the beginning of the week was so bad, Mark and I applied general purpose wood preserver so that on Tuesday we can put on the first coat of Johnstone's Opaque wood treatment.

It has taken for most of the week to finish off the painting, one more coat for David to do on the ceiling of the awning and it should be fine until the final touches will be done, once the garden is done.

With the new fence put in by Peter our neighbour, it is starting to look really good. Especially now the weather is bringing out the daffodils that I put in crates to plant in their final position later in the season. Even the apricot tree that I am training as an espalier is showing some signs of pink trying to cheer us up.

All very exciting, I am starting to look forward to a lovely garden full of spring flowers and dreams of delicious fruit and vegetables.  Can't wait!

Well, this is what we hope it will look like in a few months time.
currently it is painted white, will do the last layer when the landscaping is done.

Saturday - day 6

Although it is weekend,  Sean, Warren and Richard were already at the house and working hard at 9am.  She was happy and I was pleased not to have to throw some good stuff in the skip. Well pick up truck, as Kenny is going up and down to the yard in Takeley to get rid of all the rubble in the garden.

On my way back from the garage I bumped into Sean, so took the opportunity to catch up on the week's activities. We also discussed the garden lay-out. It was a little difficult to explain so we walked home and over a cuppa showed the plans Mark and I drew a couple of night's ago. I hope it is a good start so that Warren can prepare the foundations for the log cabin with the plans in mind

We looked at doors for the pocket doors in the front room. Mark and I have decided to have solid doors (i.e. no glass) as either the doors are fully open and lots of light will come from the front bay into the room and middle room or we want a cozy room, with the wood burning stove and guests we can then close the doors screening the room better from the toilet that is planned in the middle room.

Tonight I received a quote for new bay and sash windows from Gregory
